Camila is your average college freshman with obsessive-compulsive disorder and a big, gay crush on her roommate. After both situations come to a head in a near car crash, Cam is stuck trying to find a distraction. A chance encounter with a street magician teaches her to channel her misguided energy into a new hobby, and to open her heart to new possibilities.

Director’s Vision for ‘Misdirection’

Misdirection is a project that is very ‘me,’ a queer (aspiring) magician with OCD. For years I had wanted to find a way to put the way I experience OCD on film. It wasn’t until I started learning close-up magic that I understood how they could play off one another via repetition and distraction, which helped me craft the story. All of the magic done in the film was shot in-camera; our lead Vico Ortiz took magic lessons with Kayla Drescher, our magic consultant, for months leading up to filming.
