Inspired by the real life experience of latino LA based director, Alex Orea – Lost Angel is the inner monologue of a creative living in Los Angeles. Starring French Actor, Olivier Haon. Spoken entirely in French, this film merges two cultural identities to create something comedic, thought provoking, and deeply personal. It explores themes of imposter syndrome and mental health.
Director’s Vision for ‘Lost Angel’
The idea came about when my friend Olivier was visiting LA for a month from France. With Olivier being French I definitely wanted to tap into the films of Godard and Truffaut that played with comedy and thought provoking writing. Bringing the French new wave sensibilities to the streets of LA.
I wanted to capture the intricacies and ennui of modern life. It’s an introspective view through the eyes of a poet. A person who views the world cinematically. It’s acknowledging the beauty and anguish that makes the human experience bittersweet.
This short film is my shout to the world as an aspiring feature film director. The narrator in the opening line asks, “How do you convince the world of your greatness when you’re the only one who sees it?” It’s something I constantly ask myself. It’s the feeling of your potential being unrecognized and no matter how hard you try it feels as if all your efforts are leading you nowhere. It’s the cycle of making your dreams into reality and how hard you’re willing to make it your destiny.
