A young couple struggling with addiction revisits their childhood one last time.
Director’s Statement
Holding On was shot over a day and a half with just two locations. Given our limited budget and minuscule crew, we constructed the story in a way that allowed us to focus more on character and less on plot. The primary inspiration behind Holding On is a simple one: Too many people have been affected in some way, shape, or form by drug addiction. While the movie feels like a cautionary tale, its intended purpose is to challenge critical notions about addicts. In daily life, it is all too easy to dismiss people like Ashley and Billy for their choices, but perhaps we should consider an empathetic approach instead of judgment. It is implied that our characters both experienced turbulent upbringings. The film posits how different their lives would be had they experienced stability during childhood.
