Campesinos explores the lives of Patagonian Cowboys (Gauchos) living in Chile, at the end of the world in isolation. It is a portrait of sacrifice, tradition and endurance in extreme conditions, identifying what it truly means to be alone.
Director’s Statement
I decided to make this film after being moved by the lifestyle and generosity of the Gauchos on a trip to Patagonia back in 2013.
I was fascinated by their way of life, and really wanted to get to know them on a personal level to understand their work and how they deal with isolation.
The film explores the mental and physical difficulties of living completely alone, and how important it is to have strength and self-awareness.
