Director’s Statement

The difficulty that heartbroken and damaged people go through when experiencing massive losses like losing a parent (whether recent or not) is incalculable. Feelings and trauma can force their way to the surface in such a variety of different ways – be it depression, dreams, delusions. This film is about what grief or loss can do to an already fragile mind.

We’ve all had that moment when we’re totally convinced we’ve just seen someone who it couldn’t possibly be – maybe an ex-partner or lost relative – they’re gone in the blink of an eye. It happens to everyone – and I wanted to make a film about following that moment all the way to its conclusion.

An intentionally ambiguous tale of sadness and self-delusion needs to be approached in an extremely delicate, intimate way. We need to step inside the mind of a troubled and heartbroken young woman and recreate the avalanche of emotions she feels throughout her encounter with a women who may or may not be her mother.

The audience must be kept guessing the real identity of this woman we are following. This is not a straight up, plot-driven mystery but a psychological trip along with someone who’s as unreliable a narrator as it’s possible to get.
