Test

Test is the story of a seemingly unremarkable man who spends one day at a mysterious facility taking a bizarre test. As the test unfolds, he interacts with the odd and detached employees of the facility who guide him between sections, obscuring the intentions and duration of the test. Test stars Mickey O’Hagan (Tangerine) and Ryan McCarthy (Elementary) and features an “eerie soundtrack” (Katrina Smith, Take One) by writer and director Jay Lifton.

Test explores existentialist themes, mostly derived from the director’s experiences parenting two boys. The production design was inspired by his father’s long career with IBM which began in the 60’s. Lifton was often brought along to the office as a child to see the vast repository of technology there. The 4:3 framing and general stillness seeks to achieve the feel of cold-war surveillance
