Lost in a dark forest, Eddy Table stumbles upon a mysterious girl and dangerous parasites. He should escape, but something keeps him from leaving

What if your worst fear and your greatest love turn out to be the same thing? Director and CG animator Rune Spaans creates one of the most magical and blemishing environments, which just happens to be ran by parasites straight out of your worst nightmares. Things do start up pretty smoothly as Eddy Table is inexplicably dropped into an unimaginable universe, but his magical exploration takes an abrupt turn after he stumbles on two innocent women getting attacked by a terrifying and malicious parasite. While Eddy can escape, something keeps him from leaving. If it seems familiar, Rune Spaans’ romantic horror short is based on the works of Canadian artist Dave Cooper.

The story and characters are based on the comics, but I wanted the film’s lighting and surfaces to be closer to Dave’s paintings. His paintings have this amazing quality where everything looks warm, wet, and sticky; it feels familiar, but still very alien. I was hoping this would give the audience the feeling that Eddy is lost in a feminine world. To him, this seems alluring and seductive, but also dangerous.

Dave Cooper imagined the world and characters, but Rune definitely brought this complex world to life with an incredible and unique finishing touch. The film let’s you get lost in the surreal but will also get you saying “What the F**k?” in what could easily be the most unintentionally terrifying thing you’ll see for the next Halloween season.
