A couple breaks up just as New York City locks down. Can the pandemic bring them back together?
Director’s Vision for ‘You Can Stay Here if You Want’
This is the story of a Brooklyn couple that breaks up at a very inconvenient time: the eve of lockdown in NYC. I wanted to capture this specific moment I’d lived through in New York, when everyone was isolated in their apartments and sirens were blasting around the clock. I think the core themes of the film resonate now as much as they did then: themes of loneliness versus solitude, and the question so many people in relationships face: “Should I stay or should I go?” We decided to shoot the film on Super 16mm film to give it that textured, classic look that made me love the movies.
