Director’s Vision for ‘Totality’

As a filmmaker who left LA and spent the past few years continuing to practice my filmmaking through cinematic, story based YouTube videos, I wanted to see what was possible in the narrative space as an entirely solo project. I wrote, DP’ed, directed, acted, and edited the film from start to finish to see if one could make a compelling genre piece without any outside resources. This was not a choice made to glorify working as a loner, but more of a choice dictated by timeline and necessity. Apart from what I call the IMAX sequence the film was also shot entirely on an 85mm anamorphic lens. The lens proved an interesting challenge but also lent an aesthetic that felt visually intimate but, in terms of proximity, more voyeuristic and distant, which felt appropriate given the film’s premise is about a species that is presumably waiting and watching from afar.
