“Sunny Side Up” is a dark comedy about two best friends: Jim, an aspiring writer, and Reynolds, a charismatic slacker who views life as a ride rather than a destination. Over breakfast, Reynolds describes – in unfortunate detail – the gastric disaster that results from eating Jim’s “legendary microwaved eggs.” And then… an unexpected knock on the door. It’s Lenny – a vagabond musician and Reynolds’ “cousin.” Reynolds has invited Lenny to crash at Jim’s house, and as a token of gratitude, Lenny arrives with donuts and a wad of cash – stolen from a neighborhood donut shop – which also happens to be a front for the Russian mob. Dry comedy and observational humor abound as the situation becomes increasingly complex, leading up to the shocking climax.
