A down-and-out loser spends all of his money on a cursed sword in hopes that unlocking its power will change his fate for good.
Daniel, a 30-year-old man-child crashing on his sister’s couch, decides to purchase a “cursed” samurai sword from a weedy flea market. He believes that if he manages to unlock the power within the sword, he can change his life for good. However, the sword proves to be a formidable foe. He gets kicked out by his sister, shunned by a former love interest, and thoroughly embarrassed by pretty much everyone in his life. Eventually, Daniel must decide if unlocking the sword’s power is worth the hardship. Or, maybe he just needs to take a look inside.
Starring Stanley Sievers (Funny or Die), Jo Scott (Joe Pera Talks With You on Adult Swim), Eli Mandel (Saturday Night Live), Katrina Naficy (Comedy Central Digital), Miranda Roldán (Law & Order SVU). Produced by Keep or Destroy.
Director’s Vision
Samurai Sword is a meditation on how, for some of us, we just gotta learn lessons by beating our heads against every wall until we find a door. That’s certainly been true for me way more times than I’d like to admit, but those experiences are what made me want to make this movie. Also, this short was finally the excuse I needed to buy a sword. I didn’t want to become a “sword guy” but damn.. I did want a sword. Now I have one, and a movie that wouldn’t be possible without an absolutely bonkers talented group of cast and crew. For both them and my new sword, I am eternally grateful.
