Director’s Vision

The challenge for us as filmmakers was to not overplay our hand. The vulnerability of Gordi’s music- the intimacy of Extraordinary Life and the intense self-examination of Volcanic, perfectly laid the platform to explore the way Phoenix’s architecture can provoke introspection. We wanted to take some subtle cues from the Giallo films of the 70s to evoke an inner turmoil, but the key was putting Sophie’s incredible performances on a pedestal and letting them always be the absolute focus
