Director’s Vision

FROM THE TOP is about the self-erasure that young gay men partake in when they fail to adhere to the rigid, hyper-masculine mold our world sets forth for them. The way we learn to take up less space, deaden our intuitions, and become more tolerable to our heteronormative counterparts. My hope was to depict the painful process of unpacking where those gendered expectations come from, and reconciling how they’ve harmed you in order to find a way forward.
