Dan is fed up. Fed up with his misfortunes, fed up with his bad luck and fed up with his life. He decided to end it by eating his last ban: peanuts.
Director’s Vision for ‘Peanut Butter’
Adapted from an eponymous tale by Jérome Bérubé, “Peanut Butter” (“Beurre de Pinottes” in french) is a story that touched my heart from the very first time I read it.
From the poetry of the writing to the creativity of the story and the depth of the hero’s emotions and questions, everything about this story appealed to me. The challenge, then, was to transfer both the artistic madness and the richness of feeling of the tale to the screen. A perfect challenge for me!
Coming to the cinema through the animated film field, I like to mix mediums and push cinematography and art direction in order to develop a a cinematic universe imbued with dreamlike imagery and magical realism. I’m convinced that metaphors and poetic experiences are the best means to convey emotion and empathy. Narratively or formally, I aspire to develop poetic and dreamlike universes, to bring a new and personal look to new ideas or social issues that I find too often ignored.
Having been through an existential crisis myself, mental health issues are very close to my heart. My hope is that you will leave the movie with a new reflection, a new vision, and a few laughs.
