Director’s Statement
“Olfactory” is a system that allows users to re-experience memories. Brian, an app programmer, hacks the system so he can alter his memories, but in doing so, he loses his grip on his current reality. Olfactory is a dramatic science fiction short film that touches the unreliability of memory, the way our relationship with technology alters our relationship with truth, and the way that people create their own destructive loops of addictive behavior. Olfactory won the “Best Dramatic Short” award at the 2017 edition of the Berlin Sci-Fi Filmfest. It’s shown at a dozen festivals, including the Philip K. Dick Festival in New York, The Boston Sci-Fi Festival, and the Sydney Indie Film Festival (nominee, best editing in a short film).
