An intimate portrait of rapper and community activist Mike Floss.
Never Ran follows Mike as he ruminates on his purpose and his work following the racial injustice of 2020.
Director’s Vision for ‘Never Ran’
When I moved to Nashville in 2015, I made a list of all the people I thought were doing interesting things in the city. Mike was at the top of the list.
Six years (and a million excuses later) after writing that list, I finally reached out and we set up a time to meet. From our first meeting, I knew I wanted to make a film on Mike. Mike has such a quiet wisdom about him. I knew there was so much I (and an audience) could learn from him. Not just as an artist but as a human.
I like to find people who are in the middle of their journey, not the end. People who are still trying to figure it out. Figuring out who they are and where they belong. What they want to be known for. Because that’s where I am. That’s where most people are.
In that discovery period, there’s wisdom. There’s growth. That’s what I wanted to capture with this film. Lessons learned along the way.
