In a world where most of the population is LGBTQIA, children who exhibit “straight” tendencies are sent to camps in order to convert them back to their natural homosexual lifestyle. Camp Sohomo will convert your child in record time. Drawing upon real documentaries about straight-conversion therapy such as “Jesus Camp”, this film is a biting satire of how plainly ludicrous conversion camps are if only the roles were reversed.

Director’s Vision

Camp Sohomo is not real. Straight conversion camps don’t exist. But gay conversion camps do. They exist all over the world. And if you see footage of these camps through a certain lens, it’s jaw-droppingly hilarious. Seriously. Watch it, your brain might explode. Through a different lens however, it’s barbaric. Your head explodes for a different reason. And nobody wants to laugh at someone else’s pain. What GAY CAMP does is invert the world so the norm is being homosexual and being “different” is heterosexual. Now that we have been transported to an alternate reality, we can laugh freely at what conversion camps are. In the same vein as South Park or Sasha Baron Cohen, this film uses humor to shed light on a deeply troubling issue.
