A lonely traveler on desolate highway has a brief encounter he will never forget.

Director’s Vision

We filmed this project in less than two days, with a crew of only two people and no budget. My brothers and I, being the only collaborators on this short, have little to no experience with visual effects, but we were driven by the story we wanted to tell – and at the end of the day, we realized that a visual effect is just one of the many tools on the filmmaking toolbelt.

The film may seem simple on the surface: a narcissistic traveler encounters a UFO while on a long distance roadtrip. However, at the heart of the film, there is a lesson of great importance: if you open yourself up to a new way of thinking, you unleash a whole new world of possibilities. We are small fish in a very large pond, and there is much more to life than what is just below the surface. Although it can be difficult and uncomfortable at times, we have to take a step back and look at the world from a new perspective in order to truly grow.

Inspired by the shows and films that shaped our own childhood, such as The Twilight Zone and Spielberg classics, we wanted to tell a profound story that was masked in an entertaining short – full of whimsical fantasy and adventure. We hope you enjoy the film as much as we did making it, and we thank you for watching Fish Out of Water!
