Since Erki’s debut EP ‘Himmelbjerget’, his music has often been described as cinematographic sounding, therefore it seemed natural for him to connect a form of visual art to it. ‘Efterglow’ sees him team up with director Ingel Vaikla to produce a beautifully nostalgic and sensitive journey into the past. At the heart of the documentary is Erki’s grandmother, who recalls both the joys and tragedies of the old days whilst revisiting her former work place, the Sindi factory in the unforgiving climate of Estonia. Vaikla, whose work has previously represented Estonia in the 2012 Venice Biennale, was certain that she did not want to create a normal music video, where the visual gives way to the music, and so this fascinating and beautiful project was born.
