When Emily’s boyfriend abandons her in the night, her only way home is through an alleyway where she is terrorized by the mysterious entity Alfred J Hemlock.
Director’s Statement
When I was a young boy my mother told me the story of how one night she had been chased home by footsteps in the darkness. This story always gave me chills. What would have happened if those footsteps had caught her? In many ways this was my inspiration for Alfred J Hemlock. Taking further inspiration from the works of Stanley Kubrick, German Expressionism and the fairy tale trope of “Little Red Riding Hood” I set about crafting a nightmarish world where a young woman, pursued by the devilish Alfred J Hemlock, experiences a terrifying disconnect between subjectivity and reality. The film, firmly positioned within the conventions of horror and suspense, is ultimately a tale about the importance of self-belief and how the demons inside of us are only ever as powerful as we allow them to be.
