An ailing child follows a bright floating light who attracts him into a creature’s lair that we can fear more than touch

A short film directed by Thomas Destugues for the simple reason of exploring creativity. Touched by a light Montreal winter depression and lack of personal projects, his friend Yann Penno proposed they create a project together, from there Smoggus was born.

A 3D animator at gaming firm, Thomas asked upon several friends at the office to help create this short film including Valère Gauthier, who contributed widely to the final quality of the film,  which leaves huge imaginations that are as beautiful as they are terrifying. The short has the eeriness of ‘Donnie Darko‘ and the surreal entrapment in M83‘s ‘Midnight City‘ video clip.

It’s more of a small test at directing rather than a film with a deep scenario

For Thomas it was as much as a test to learn new software as a test to get behind the camera. I love tests that turn into amusing short film, and with the help of a couple of friends, Thomas managed to grow his little test into a simply magnificent monster short film!

The sound design created by Steven Hernandez adds to an already marvelous experience, together with the soothing sounds of Montrealer Patrick Watson‘s ‘Lighthouse‘ soundtrack.
