Jenn lives in an underground bunker with her family, protected from the monsters that now ravage the world. This is the day that she goes outside…

Monsters are a real thing in this sharply crafted short film from Steve Desmond, where the premise might sound similar to ‘Blast From The Past‘, but we assure you that ‘Monsters’ will leave you with a completely different feeling. The film is about Jenn, a 10-year-old girl who has never seen sunlight or trees or houses. She’s spent her whole life in an underground bunker with her family, because outside… The world has been overtaken by horrific monsters. While her family makes dangerous supply runs to the surface, Jenn is left in the lonely bunker. Eventually, she can’t take the confinement anymore. So while her parents are sleeping, she steals a key and sneaks out of the bunker…

And what she finds outside is far more terrifying than any monster she ever imagined.

Monsters is a Twilight Zone style story for the modern world. It was funded by a group of passionate backers on a Kickstarter campaign last fall. At its core, it’s a story about feeling trapped. We’ve all felt trapped at some point in our lives, whether it’s trapped in a job, a relationship, or a hometown. But all the while, we dream of escaping and living a better life. The ultimate goal of the short film is to use it to set up a feature length version, which we’ve already written.

Deep on emotions and suspense, ‘Monsters’ keeps us on the edge from beginning to end, with some unexpected surprises. The quality of the setting really gives us the sensation of entrapment, empowered by the performance of the main protagonist played by Caitlin Carmichael and her surrounding cast.
