A film about hope, humanity, and loss. Focusing on a brief moment in a complicated conflict.
The title is bold, but not as significantly religious as you might think. It’s a short film about hope, humanity, and loss. Focusing on a brief moment in a complicated conflict, the film depicts how the lives of ordinary people are being unraveled on the periphery of the brutal civil war in Syria.
‘God is the Greatest’ is based on a true story, inspired by real news footage of the Syrian civil war. The film depicts how the lives of ordinary people are being unraveled on the periphery of the brutal civil war. The international film is created by a team of German and Lebanese filmmakers, where it was initially planned to be shot in Beirut, but became no longer possible due to the drastic change of situation in the Middle East.
The production ultimately moved to Berlin, Germany where it was shot in the set of George Clooney´s “The Monuments Men“. As the filmmakers believe, journalists shouldn´t be left alone with the horrifying reality in the war and therefore tried to create an emotionally accessible story many people can relate to. The film does not want to take any political side and instead focus on the lives of civilians.
And the focus of the film created by the team is quite clear, putting the human aspect before anything on a hostile environment. The actors put tears and sweat through engrossing the horrid reality of the situation.
