Director’s Statement

Curious to see what images would accompany his music, Ryuichi Sakamoto created the async International Short Film Competition. Participants had to create short films with a maximum length of 10 minutes and use 1 or 2 tracks from his latest album, ‘async’. After reading that he had described the work as “an imaginary soundtrack to an Andrei Tarkovsky film,” certain images came immediately to mind, and as I listened to the music, I was transported to several other scenarios and moods. Wanderer is what came out of that inspired process, one in which I also wanted to experiment with specific dramatic elements and locations.
