Director’s Vision for ‘Super Abuelita’

I wanted to really build the sense that this abuelita is larger than life. She has a rugged sense of cariño and sure, she should take a break, but she’s down for anything. So the goal was to shoot this almost like a sports or athletic film, energetic and fast-paced and full of vibrant details, while still keeping it pure and authentic. She is, after all, Super Abuelita, and I wanted to give her the heroic elevated treatment we’d give to someone super active and badass, like a soccer star. We’re constantly in the fray right along with her, building the sense of her busy life through organic and dynamic yet intentional camerawork.
