Based on a true story, “La Loteria” follows Augusto, a young man who has just won the US Greencard lottery, only to discover that in order to stay with his new girlfriend of six months, they’ll have to get married next week.
“La Loteria” is based on my personal experience of winning the US Greencard lottery while in New Zealand. When I decided to adapt the story while living in the US, I decided it would make more sense to make the film about a young Dominican couple going through the same experiences.
