In May 2020, I interviewed a bunch of my stuff about how they were feeling during the lockdown, which they experienced in separate parts of the room, but together. InaniMates is a hybrid documentary-fiction.
Director’s Vision for ‘InaniMates’
This film is meant as a quiet reflection on the filmmaker’s personal experience. The characters were voiced by my friends who were living in different parts of the world but experiencing the same global event. InaniMates was shot in Vancouver by me in my bedroom, the co-cinematographer was in Mexico, and the voice actors were in Australia, South Africa, London, New York, and down the street. I moved to Canada from Australia five months before the lockdown began. I made this film with the hopes of connecting with friends through a creative project, and sharing some insight into my contained world at the time with, primarily, my mother.
