Hummingbirds in the Trenches is a short documentary about the life of author/spoken word poet, Kondwani Fidel. It is as much about him as it is about Baltimore.

Directors Statement
Hummingbirds in the Trenches is the most important film I’ve worked on in every sense. I am humbled and honored to have been trusted by Kondwani Fidel to tell his story of overcoming adversity and the issues that affect the city of Baltimore. One thing that stood out to me is that Kondwani describes himself as “someone who fell through the cracks,” which is the first time I have heard this used to describe someone successful. He means that so many people in Baltimore have their potential squandered by the issues that exist there. By “falling through the cracks,” he was one of the lucky ones. To have had an opportunity to share his story and the story of Baltimore and even shed a small amount of light on an issue that millions of Americans are impacted by was a daunting task. I was blessed to work with extremely talented people from pre-production to post. I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better team. I am forever grateful that they all not only trusted me but worked tirelessly to make this film as good as it could be.
