Director’s Statement

This film was born out of me and my friends’ struggles to find our footing after college – our navigating the new habits and rituals we would have to create to survive outside the simple sense of progress that school provides. I laid out specific challenges for myself – some structural, like the use of repeating imagery and surreal elements to reveal a character’s interior life, and some technical, like building an effective visual language around specific camera movements. I’ve also become aware of how the film reflects millennial anxieties about the “gig economy,” nomadic lifestyles, and how it seems increasingly difficult for people to build wealth and ownership.
