Seeking reconciliation with his past, Marco Ema enters an intimate cinema. There, he inserts a film reel into a projector, preparing to relive the pivotal moments of his life. Through these images, he revisits his emotional journey and the challenging process of coming to terms with grief. Each scene unfolds before him, reflecting the crucial stages and deep emotions that have shaped him. Marc confronts his memories, searching for inner peace by re-examining his past in a new light.

Director’s Vision for ‘Boys’

Marco Ema’s latest album, Anyway Mommy Love, is a major work, and a great album requires great resources. With its European flavor and inspirations, straight out of Cinema Paradiso, I half-jokingly suggested that the music video should be shot in Europe, since we don’t have those European landscapes in Montreal. A few months later, we found ourselves in the heart of southern France, capturing stunning visuals in breathtaking settings.

To me, the music video for Boys reflects those memories that stay with us and evoke a sense of nostalgia—memories we sometimes wish we could revisit on the big screen. Some of my most mundane memories from traveling alone have turned out to be the most cherished. Whether it’s enjoying a coffee on a terrace or simply strolling through the streets of an unfamiliar city, there’s a beauty in solitude and boredom, and I think that’s what this music video tries to convey.
