What happens to the Final Girl after a horror movie ends? After surviving a horrific weekend at a remote cabin in the woods where all of her friends were brutally murdered, Ashley finds herself in handcuffs. Her story is extraordinary, and the cops who brought her in for questioning don’t believe a word of it. The FBI sends in a psychologist, Dr. Warren to determine whether Ashley is completely crazy, or if there’s more to her story.

The short was produced by the LA based filmmaking collective “Assorted Kinds”, which is a group of independent filmmakers who collaborate on a new short film every month. It also serves as a teaser for the feature version of the film that writer/director Matt Devino has scripted and is hoping to get produced in the near future. The feature version essentially begins with the short film and explores how Ashley deals with trying to go back to a normal life. That is until more horrific events unfold, and Ashley is recruited by a mysterious organization called “The Vigil” which is comprised entirely of other women who have survived similar horrific events, and have pledged their lives to fighting evil.

The film holds the essentials you’d expect from a slasher film, just that we don’t really see any of them. The great thing about ‘Last One Screaming’ is the different angle the story is told in and how the story develops through an interrogation process. Brilliantly lead by Camilla Greenberg who is able to bring the terror through, the rest of the film is a perfect storm of setting, lighting, music and structure.
