Little EJ teaches you the origins of Juneteenth; a holiday considered “America’s Second Independence Day”.
Director’s Vision
The inspiration that ignited the series for Black To School sparked only a few months ago, back in February, when I created a Facebook Avatar. I would copy and paste the avatar into Photoshop and create infographics with Black historical facts and then I would post them on Instagram. To my surprise, people really enjoyed them. I was even getting text and phone calls from people saying they were learning from the slides and wanted more of them. Not long after posting more somebody said to me “you need to make a cartoon of this,” and I thought to myself ‘why not!?’, but I didn’t know where to start. So, I did what anyone would do when they don’t know anything; I Googled it and I learned how to make animations by watching Youtube videos.
I’ve always been fascinated by the process of animation, but I never thought I’d end up creating one of my own, let alone lending my voice to it. This is literally the first time I’ve ever created an animation and I just really hope people enjoy and have as much fun watching it as I did creating it. There will certainly be more in the near future!
