On a toxic alien planet, a teenage girl and her father hunt for precious materials aiming to strike it rich.

We all remember the spectacular short film ‘In The Pines‘, which has reached in our top 10 shorts of 2013 with its incredible cinematography and unique “out of this world” story. Well directors Zeek Earl & Chris Caldwell strike us again with a new alienating masterpiece ‘Prospect’.

Prospect is the coming-of-age story of a teenage girl on a toxic alien planet. She and her father hunt for precious materials, aiming to strike it rich. When the father is attacked by a roving bandit, the daughter must take control.

The first time we laid eyes on Washington’s Hoh Rainforest, we knew we wanted to make a sci-fi film there. So we set out to make a gritty, organic, and tactile brand of sci-fi; favoring detailed costumes and props over a green screen.

Once again Zeek and Chris take nature’s beauty at center stage of their film. But this time they turned a beautiful forest into an inhospitable alien planet.

After over a year of effort, the incredible support of our Kickstarter backers, and tons of passionate volunteer talent, we were able to make this short a reality. We see this short as just the beginning and intend to further explore this world in a feature film.

Like ‘In The Pines‘ set across a forest, the duo from Shep Films rely heavily on textures and lighting to accentuate their film, adding a nice touch of ‘toxic’ air in this one with some enriching flying pollen. A simply stunning environment with an indie outlook on an alien planet, just a brilliant outcome!
