A troubled man recalls a strange childhood journey to a town with no name. And the horrifying apparition that has followed him ever since

IN A FOREIGN TOWN is a short horror film based on the stories of acclaimed author Thomas Ligotti who the Washington Post has called “the best kept secret in contemporary horror fiction.” Recovering from a suicide attempt, a troubled man recalls a strange childhood journey to a town with no name– and the horrifying apparition that has followed him ever since.

The short is a proof-of-concept for an anthology series which is currently in active development.

IN A FOREIGN TOWN stars Yuri Lowenthal (Spider-Man Ps4, Love, Death + Robots), Tony Amendola (Annabelle, Stargate Sg1), David Rees Snell (S.W.A.T., The Shield), Jack McGraw (Paddleton, Godless), Adam Tomei (Yelling To The Sky, The Truman Show) and Strange Dave (The Smiling Man).

In a Foreign Town Production Notes

IN A FOREIGN TOWN was shot with an Arri Alexa Classic. Equipped with a package of vintage lenses supplied by Clairmont (now Keslow) Camera. We used a set of Super Baltar prime lenses for the “present-day” clinic and exterior scenes. Along with a 20-120mm Angenieux Zoom for the “memory” sequence set in the Town. For these scenes, we also placed hand-painted Vaseline mattes in front of the lens to further enhance the dreamy sense of a bygone time.

Directed by Michael Shlain, the film capitalizes on tense soundscapes and a detailed atmospheric photography to set the eerie tone. The film was shot at Butcher Bird Studios, Universal Studios and on location in Los Angeles, California.
