Director’s Vision for ‘You Can Go Home Whenever You Want’
There’s an easy answer to what this movie is about:
Pain, friendship, loss, music, laughter, and learning to empathize with people that you don’t understand. The real answer is a lot harder to pin down.
We intentionally left quite a bit open ended, hoping that it leaves space for you to supply your own answers and understanding. While I had certain specifics in mind when I made it, the reality is there are as many correct answers to the questions in this film as there are people who have seen it.
We also intentionally made a film that requires a little bit of patience. It might have something to do with my ADHD, but I really enjoy the challenge of films that ask a lot of me, that require me to match their frequency rather than bring my own to them. My hope is that if you give yourself space to be wrapped up in it, this film will give you something for your attention, like the films that I love have given to me.
It means the world that anyone would give the time of day to a movie like this, especially when there are so many other things you could be doing.
One last thing: We’re on Letterboxd, so we’d love it if you shared your thoughts on the film there, positive or negative!
