Director’s Vision for ‘Wide Open’

The idea for Wide Open came to me within a month of moving to Los Angeles. Masculinity has always been rooted in my work, so after moving to a city where you essentially have these castle like homes in the hills overlooking the city below, the question of “How would one, and traditionally a man, protect this valuable thing and the people inside in the event of a home invasion?” came very quickly.

It made me ask myself “What would I do if I had to protect my partner and home? Are factors of security and protection growing in importance when trying to find the “ideal” partner today? Do we still have primal instincts and values when looking for a partner whether we want to admit them or not?”

A home invasion movie seemed like the perfect vessel to explore this idea of security in a modern day relationship and a physical home, and expose the fragility of both.
