Director’s Vision for ‘Volition’

When Emily reached out to me with her very personal story, I was anxious to read. The journey that led her to writing this script captivated me. Raw, honest, cathartic. For me, there’s nothing more inspiring than connecting with others through these stories of survival, empowerment and healing, and this film is the epitome of embracing inner strength and power through the female gaze.

I’m drawn specifically to horror because of the insane emotional journeys they can bring me on, and the psychology in the horror & humanity of it all. While VOLITION isn’t the kind of horror that has freaky supernatural monsters, it’s about the monstrous actions very real people carry out everyday. What gets people to this place and why? These are the questions I’ve asked myself as we made this film, and I hope audiences explore this with me.
