On the run in a post-apocalyptic Pacific Northwest, a young woman must choose between a chance with the girl she loves and saving another group member as a deadly threat closes in.
Director’s Vision for ‘The One That Got Away’
It’s hard to ignore the films and shows that inspired this short. Obviously, I love the work of Kelly Reichardt. She is my queen. And yes, I do enjoy that one, post-apocalyptic show on HBO. I made this film, though, because while I love the post-apocalyptic genre, I don’t like zombies. I wanted to tell a story in that world and forget about how we got there, and instead jump straight into characters dealing with love and relationships in a beautiful natural world. Everyone knows the question: What would you do for love? It’s usually framed positively, but I wanted to ask, can love go too far? Can it drive you to something so terrible that the person you love ultimately rejects you?
Bringing this story to life wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible team behind it. We had a talented crew in Portland, Oregon, and collaborated with artists from the United Kingdom, Poland, Australia, and Germany. Their dedication and artistry made this film what it is, and I’m deeply grateful for their contributions.
Thank you for taking the time to watch our film. I hope it resonates with you in some way, and I appreciate your support. Enjoy!
