Following a personal loss, a grieving man develops an unhealthy companionship with a scarecrow.

Director’s Vision for ‘The Man & The Scarecrow’

I’ve always been fascinated by how people cope with emotional erosion—those slow, private collapses that happen when no one’s watching. The Man & The Scarecrow is a story that grew out of my own fear of loneliness and the deeply human instinct to preserve connection at any cost, even if it means manufacturing it.

I am deeply drawn to narratives where the surreal grows quietly out of the mundane—where something magical or horrific slips into the frame without fanfare. I love working in the emotional gray zone. These stories are complicated and speak to the nuance of the human condition.

This film came from a place of asking: what does grief look like when it festers in isolation? What does it do to our memory of love, of partnership, of ourselves?

In seeking to ask questions of identity, attachment, and reality distortion, The Man & The Scarecrow is a deeply personal reflection on how memory can be weaponized, how intimacy can become illusionary, and how letting go is often harder than holding on to something broken. It’s my way of saying: this is what it looks like when the heart refuses to heal the way it’s supposed to.

Our production is able to happily boast our awarded support from ARRI Rental, and The American Society of Cinematographers’ “Fresh Perspectives Grant” for 2024 as well as successfully crowdfunding through Seed & Spark — which completed its run with 105% funded.
