A group of friends struggle to explain the motives and meaning behind a friend’s death. After finally reaching a consensus, they learn that their story may be a fabrication.
Director’s Vision for ‘The Interpreters’
THE INTERPRETERS is a film about the stories we invent in the face of mortality, filtered through the lens of social media. Upon learning of a friend’s death via social media, a friend group interprets vaguely agreed upon facts to explain the death. Like much of what we see online, our projection onto and interpretation of news, posts, or updates often overshadows the reality of the subject. Sometimes the stories we create about something we see online are totally at odds with reality. This short explores what happens when the observers of media lose agency and prioritize their subjective narrative regardless of whether or not it’s coherent.
