Director’s Vision for ‘The Biting Tree’

I made The Biting Tree when I had a very young child, my only. While everything was ‘perfect,’ the depth of my despair would reveal itself to me in surprising flashes: an intricate shared playdate calendar, a forgotten dentist appointment. This film is a fairy tale about those flashes; a mother’s taboo rage, explored through the connection between a mother and another symbol of stoicism. As we shot this film in the woods, these flashes morphed into something altogether different. They became reveries, then a benign story about an ordinary couple, and finally, pure terror as a tree asks the mother for the unspeakable.
