Director’s Vision for ‘Terra’
The idea for Terra, originally workshopped with the title “Alien”, came to us when Rocio received her US work visa, effective labelling her an “alien”. We wanted to work with an observational concept that would put our character – a being different to what we recognise as our own – in a place that was a cultural stereotype to us, but totally alien to them. The tone we targeted and the world we wanted to conceive was a strange in the mundane. We allowed our character freedom to interpret how they would navigate this human space, and decide for themselves what they’d be drawn to.
Six months before filming, on January 1st, 2024, Bayside Marketplace in Miami became the centre of widespread alien speculation following a chaotic incident in which a viral video that showed a glowing figure, captured a massive police presence at the scene. The incident sparked both serious discussions and humorous takes on the supposed alien sighting, continuing the enduring fascination with UFOs and extraterrestrial life, particularly in Florida. This became the perfect “real” backdrop to our film that was already taking a docu-like approach
