Director’s Vision for ‘Strawberry Milk’

Six years ago, I gave birth to my oldest child and experienced a lot of difficulty breastfeeding. Eventually I weaned and regained autonomy over my body, but the trauma of those first few months stayed with me. I became determined to create a piece of art that authentically portrays the horrors of that phase of life and sheds light on the rarely discussed topic of maternal mental health.

That is the origin of STRAWBERRY MILK, a short psychological thriller which borrows elements from such films as BLACK SWAN, TULLY, and BABY RUBY. It is the story of Lilly, a woman whose postpartum anxiety coupled with the pressures of new motherhood leads her to have a psychotic break.

STRAWBERRY MILK asks the question: Is it possible for mothers to retain their identity, comfort, and sanity? Or does motherhood require a complete denial of self?
