Eight lives intersect in a municipal courthouse bathroom and find a surprising humanity.
Director’s Vision for ‘Stalled in Eight Etudes’
In “Stalled In Eight Etudes,” I aimed to create a dynamic playground for two performers and a talented team to explore their artistic prowess collaboratively.
The film, playfully shot in a seemingly continuous “one-er,” takes you through a women’s restroom in a courthouse, where each character grapples with unique challenges, each metaphorically “stalled.” The magical twist is that (almost) all characters are portrayed by a single actress.
The film’s essence lies in the meticulous focus on each woman, highlighting that the personal is political. Their individual stories, detailed with care, create the illusion of a diverse array of women within the confines of the bathroom’s pink-tiled walls. Yet, it’s a singular performer embodying these roles (save for a surprise guest). Together as a collective, these women symbolize something much greater.
With the exceptional talents of the creative team, actress Tracey Bonner, and a surprise appearance by actress Celine Jackson, this unexpected film surpasses anything I could have envisioned. Enjoy!
