High School soccer players Cammie, Em, and Kara have a tradition of visiting a different psychic after every Saturday match per Em’s request. After their latest game win, the girls find themselves at Maureen’s psychic shop. Here, Cammie soon discovers she is in over her head when this highly recommended psychic unveils an unknown secret in front of her two best friends.

Director’s Vision for ‘Saturday Ritual’

The story of ‘Saturday Ritual’ is inspired by a very real and awkward experience I shared with my two best friends in high school. For a few months, we had a tradition of visiting different psychics after coaching little kids in soccer on Saturday mornings. Similar to Cammie, I was outed by a psychic in front of my friends and to myself. We grew up in Indiana and we’d been attending various psychics and psychic fairs purely for fun… until things got a little too real. This specific psychic was very combative, she casually dropped so many truths for each of us, and she planted a seed for my own self discovery. Years later (in college), I discovered the psychic was correct about my queer identity and as I’ve learned to embrace this experience, I knew I had to turn it into a film.

Rather than making ‘Saturday Ritual’ a coming out story, I wanted to make it a coming to. I’ve always viewed the psychic as a guiding source that allowed me the space to find my true self, and I hope others within the community see themselves within this story. Though my personal experience was tragically more awkward and traumatizing, I made the active decision to reflect on this time with more warmth and comedic moments because it’s something I think so many members of our community need. Over time, this psychic outing became a running joke in my friend group and it furthered our love for exploring the other side and the unknown.
