A triple-threat actress with Broadway aspirations faces an identity crisis in a high-stakes audition. As she becomes desperate for external validation, reality and musical fantasy begin to blur in dangerous ways.
“This Is The Dream!”…Isn’t it?
Director’s Vision for ‘Role Play’
No matter how hard I try to escape it, I will always be a Theater Kid. For so much of my life, being a performer was my identity. I followed my dreams to New York City, where I sang and danced my ass off; but somewhere along the way, I started to get in my head. I became alarmingly concerned with how other people viewed me – as both an actor and as a young woman. And the more self-conscious I became, the less fun I had doing the thing that used to bring me boundless joy.
I think we all struggle with inner critics – voices that judge our every move and hold us back from being our most authentic selves. I know that learning to silence those voices will be a lifelong journey. But this film is a first step in confronting my own insecurities and returning to the magical world of theater that I so adore.
“Role Play” is a love letter to the performers out there hustling, bringing their unique flair to all that they do. It’s a tribute to the brave souls who defy stereotypes and embrace their individuality in a world that seeks conformity. I hope it inspires audiences to do the same in their own lives.
