RINGLOOM is a drama/surreal horror thriller with elements of fantasy and scifi.

A young trainee with aspirations to become a “pilot”, a form of enhanced human, takes one last evaluation before deciding to return home, but the interview untangles as she is forced to come to terms with a traumatic incident that occurred a year prior.

The film at its core, is a surreal/symbolic exploration of grief and guilt. A close friend of mine passed away in a car accident a couple years ago, and all I can remember thinking when I found out is the time he asked if he could stay with me for a couple months and I turned him down. That feeling you have when someone close to you passes away suddenly and unexpectedly, that you could have done more to change the outcome. It’s a terrible place to be, and overcoming this sort of guilt is something I think a lot of people can relate to. I hope we were able to recreate this feeling using the lens of genre to some extent.

Grief is hard to pull yourself out of. We are who we are through these experiences. They loved you and you loved them. That feeling will always remain real no matter how long they’re gone. A piece of who they were will be with you forever. Honor that piece by living. By feeling. By making new connections. Don’t close yourself off. This is not the end of the line and they wouldn’t want it to be. Love yourself like they loved you. It’s going to be okay. This film attempts to tap into this process of acceptance and the aftermath of emotional trauma. I can only hope you find it to be from a genuine place as was intended.
