A hypnotic meditation on the world, finished in lo‑fi immediacy, inspired by the Panasonic NV‑M50. Everything is real tape. Colours are rich, and edges are soft. Frames carry the texture of glitches and occasional shake. Despite the limitations, the film moves through venerated spaces, everyday human rituals, and natural wonders. It offers fleeting, intimate glimpses. A miniature global spectacle, each shot feeling like something discovered in the moment.
Director’s Vision for ‘Redbank’
I grew up in a remote area with terrible TV reception. I was a teenager in the 90s and would spend hours wandering around the local video shop. I wasn’t allowed new releases (too expensive), so I had to make the most of the 5 weekly rentals for $5. I picked those five movies like it was the most important decision I would make that year. I wanted to make a project that reflected how I saw the world back then. What kind of film would I have made without the gear and resources I have now? It would have meant borrowing the school’s VHS camera, the kind that recorded straight onto full-size VHS tapes. So this short film is an experiment, trying to see what a film I made back then might actually have looked like.
