Director’s Vision for ‘Piecemeal’.

With „Piecemeal“, we wanted to create a short film that feels like living in a broken home. A lot of stylistic choices were made specifically to further the angst and deliberately discomfort the viewer. As harsh as it sounds, but we really wanted to put viewers right there with the characters to feel all of the unease, the tension, the awkwardness and the horror of living in that household. The ‘family harmony’ is already hanging by a thread when the film begins, but instead of facing their past and the problems at hand, both the individual family members and the family unit as a whole engage in active self-annihilation. A process that we were especially keen to illustrate and the primary reason for the ‘family secret’ that is later revealed. „Piecemeal“ is also chock-full of references to the various films, short stories and paintings that inspired us to conceive this story and thus also serves as our declaration of love to the very art that both of us cherish.
