Director’s Vision for ‘Outrageous’

I met Isy years ago to DP some of her music videos. I was impressed with her music and amazed by her creative vision she had; planning, producing, and directing all her videos on her own. Unlike some other music artists, she was fully in control of her aesthetic and brand. One of the shoots we did together was an acoustic set of unreleased and unrecorded songs, one of them being this 9 minute epic called Outrageous. After we filmed the acoustic, I asked if she was interested in letting me direct a music video for the full song.

As she has stated, Outrageous is a song about collaboration and releasing control, from the original subject matter, to the production, to the video. The thing that drove and inspired my desire to make the video was how the song played out in two parts, interrupted in the middle by this mesmerizing interlude, creating this grandiose sense of a long journey from start to finish. Duality is a theme I explore in most of my works, and I saw this track as an excellent vehicle to explore these themes in a new way – blending the music video into a larger short film about change, resilience, and self-actualization. I hope to take the viewer through a journey that reflects the feelings I felt so strongly listening to the song.
